Dear Neighbours,
As 2025 comes to a close, I want to thank the DUKE Heights BIA and its members for another year of collaboration and progress. DUKE Heights is one of Toronto’s most dynamic employment districts — a hub of innovation, manufacturing, and logistics that keeps our city moving. The partnership between the BIA, City staff, and local businesses continues to drive meaningful results, from infrastructure improvements to stronger protections for local jobs.
This year saw the opening of the DUKE Heights Pedestrian Trail, running along the east side of Allen Road from Sheppard Avenue West to Rimrock Road. The new pathway improves safety and access for workers and residents while connecting businesses more seamlessly with nearby transit and commercial areas. At the same time, road resurfacing and curb upgrades on Alness Street have enhanced mobility and goods movement for the many industrial employers that rely on this corridor.

We also celebrated the creation of the DUKE Heights Parkette at Dufferin and Finch. What was once an underused corner has become an attractive community space with seating, landscaping, and public art — a symbol of the BIA’s vision for a cleaner, safer, and more inviting public realm that supports the people who work and invest here.
At the policy level, my office has been working closely with the City Planning Division and the DUKE Heights BIA to ensure employment areas remain protected and prosperous. I recently joined a meeting with Chief Planner Jason Thorne and local representatives to discuss the effects of Provincial Bill 97 and Official Plan Amendment 804. As these planning frameworks evolve, I want BIA members to know that your interests remain front of mind. I encourage you to reach out to my office to share how the City can better support your business — whether through zoning, permitting, workforce programs, or infrastructure priorities.
Thank you once again to every business owner, worker, and resident who makes DUKE Heights thrive. Your ideas, energy, and feedback shape the work we do at City Hall every day. I look forward to hearing from you and continuing this strong partnership in 2026.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me and my team via phone at 416-392-1371 or by email at councillor_pasternak@toronto.ca.
Sincerely,
James Pasternak
