Dear Neighbours,
Our office takes the noise levels and other neighbourhood disruptions related to the new concert venue in Downsview very seriously. We have been working with Live Nation, Northcrest Developments, and City of Toronto divisions to ensure that all bylaws are adhered to and local businesses and residents are respected. We continue to make adjustments in order to reduce the impact of the partial lane closure on Wilson Avenue, monitor noise levels, increase security, and ease traffic congestion. Progress has been made over the past few weeks. Construction on the Highway 401 on-ramp from Allen Road southbound is complete. Ways to improve wayfinding for concertgoers and discourage drop-offs at incorrect access points to Rogers Stadium have been implemented.
Toronto Hydro will be improving the electrical distribution system on a section of Vanley Crescent. They will be replacing overhead electrical cables and relocating hydro poles. Work is expected to begin September 2025 and be completed by December 2025.
The City of Toronto is considering amending its zoning bylaw to permit small-scale retail, service, and office uses in residential zones around the city. The proposed adjustments will enable for a diverse range of small businesses and service providers to operate on residential properties along main routes. Only limited uses, such as small cafes and convenience stores, would be permitted in the interior of neighbourhoods, and only on corner lots or adjacent to other facilities such as schools, parks, or commercial areas. Project details are available at www.toronto.ca/LocalRetail, and the survey can be completed at https://ca.mar.medallia.com/TOLocalRetail2025.
