Dear Neighbours,
We remain deeply concerned about the draconian and unwarranted tariffs imposed on a significant number of Canadian exports to the United States, and the impact that this has had on many exporters in the Duke Heights district.
The City of Toronto is taking further steps to support and safeguard local manufacturers while helping to enhance Canada's economic resilience in response to tariff measures from the United States, with the establishment of the Industrial Property Tax Deferral Program. This program enables eligible industrial property owners to defer 2025 tax payments from June 1 to November 30 without incurring late fines or interest charges, providing much-needed cash flow flexibility for businesses facing trade uncertainties.
During the upcoming Toronto City Council Meeting, a report recommending the adoption of Official Plan Amendment 804 (OPA 804) to align the Official Plan with the new provincial definition of "area of employment" in the Planning Act and "employment area". I will be advocating at City Hall and working with staff to clarify the City’s stance on OPA 804. It is critical that the implementation of this planning amendment will avoid unintended disruptions to business continuity and support a stable and adaptable planning framework.
