There are lots of exciting events and projects starting up this Spring and Summer in the DUKE Heights BIA. Below are just a few updates for our area, but be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter @DUKEHeightsBIA for the latest news on construction, TTC progress, Beautification projects and more. It’s going to be a busy summer for DUKE Heights and we want to keep everyone in the loop!
Doors Open TO:
This year the 18th Annual Doors Open Toronto will take place on May 27-28th and will feature an exciting new architectural gem in the DUKE Heights Neighborhood. The new Downsview Park Station will be open for visits from the public on Saturday May 27th from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Visitors will be able to take a self guided tour through the new station and speak to the artists, designers and project managers who have worked to bring this new station together.
TTC Almost There:
The good news for commuters in the area, is that the Toronto York Spadina Subway Extension is currently on track for completion in December of 2017. TTC is in the process of testing each new system and piece of equipment being used along the new subway extension, including tracks, tunnels, and stations. The stations themselves are over 92% complete and more than 50% of the required station testing has been completed.
Continued Beautification Projects:
Last Summer, DUKE Heights started up a new program to increase the number of trees being planted in our neighborhood. This Summer, that project will be continuing with over 300 trees set to be planted by City of Toronto primarily along Finch Avenue W. This planting will be completed throughout the month of June, so be sure to keep an eye out for this progress.
