Dear Neighbours,
I hope everyone had a restful break and enjoyed quality time with family and friends during the holidays. As we start the new year, I am eager to work on behalf of the Duke Heights community in 2025 and am eager to partner on new and proven initiatives.
The 2025 City of Toronto Budget Launch is officially underway, with the Budget Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025. We are watching the residential and commercial tax rates very closely and will not support increases that hurt investments and residential ownership. I will advocate for sufficient funding in areas such as economic and cultural development, policing and emergency services, transportation and infrastructure, and parks capital. Last year’s 9.5% property tax increase was disappointing and placed an unnecessary burden on property owners. I am committed to voting against this year’s proposed property tax increase of 6.9%.
I am also excited to invite everyone to enjoy the pop-up ice rink and winter activities at 34 Hanover Road. Please join me on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for a fun day of skating. Remember to bring your skates, helmets, and warm clothing! Limited helmet and skate rentals will be available. Please register at https://jamespasternak.ca/skating/. I look forward to seeing you there!
Lastly, I was deeply concerned to learn of a store robbery that took place at Keele Street and Wilson Avenue on January 6, 2025. The suspects fled in a vehicle and were later involved in a collision near Finch Avenue West and Chesswood Drive. Thankfully, the Toronto Police Service's 31 Division apprehended the suspects, and charges have been laid. This incident serves as a timely reminder for store owners to remain vigilant and utilize all available safety and crime prevention resources.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me and my team via phone at 416-392-1371 or by email at councillor_pasternak@toronto.ca.
Sincerely,
James Pasternak
