Dear Neighbours,
I hope everyone is looking forward to enjoying the warm summer weather and the outdoor activities and amenities that York Centre has to offer. Here are a few updates that I wish to share.
I was once again invited to Sanofi Canada’s Toronto campus for an exciting announcement, the grand opening of their new $800 million vaccine manufacturing facility. During this event, I joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Doug Ford, Mayor Olivia Chow, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Ya’ara Saks and Solicitor General Michael Kerzner for an in-depth tour of this impressive facility. This is another great investment for York Centre and the City of Toronto that will create jobs and save lives.
This month, Metrolinx is hosting a second round of public consultations to share ideas and gather feedback on the proposed Sheppard Line Extension. There will be an open house at Earl Bales Community Centre on Thursday, June 20 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For more information about this initiative, visit www.metrolinx.com/sheppardextension. It is wonderful to see that the potential of Sheppard West as a new addition to Toronto’s transit network is coming closer to fruition.
The 50 Wilson Heights Boulevard development project is nearing the first phase of construction. Since May 28, 2024, CreateTO and Greenwin Developments have begun making preparations at the TTC Wilson Station Main Parking Lot. They are currently conducting a geothermal drill test on site that should be completed by mid-June. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be held in July 2024. We are looking forward to the positive components that will be built including hundreds of underground commuter parking spaces, a new public park, a new daycare, and hundreds of affordable housing units.
