Dear Neighbours,
Here are a couple of updates that I wish to share.
I am pleased to announce that Bike Share TO has received approval from Transportation Services for 12 new bikeshare stations in York Centre for the 2025 expansion plan. One of these locations will be within the Duke Heights BIA boundaries at Keele Street and St. Regis Crescent. This station will act as a complementary piece to the expansion of York Centre’s cycling infrastructure and the off-road bike lanes on Chesswood Drive.
Toronto Hydro will be improving the electricity system in York Centre. The project area includes a section of Keele Street, Tangiers Road, and Four Winds Drive. Work is expected to begin this month.
I was invited to tour Shell Canada’s Keele fuel distribution terminal in our ward along Keele Street and Tangiers Road and meet their Facilities Manager. This terminal is a key part of Toronto and southern Ontario’s fuel infrastructure network. It was a productive visit, and I had the opportunity to experience an exclusive overview of the operations and infrastructure of this facility. We also discussed the prospect of collaborating on public art initiatives and accepting soft uses on the surroundings of their site.

I recently participated in a townhall hosted by Live Nation Canada to discuss the temporary Rogers Stadium in Downsview. This is a privately funded, temporary stadium that will be built with private funds at the north end of the current runway. It is scheduled to open at the end of June and will have concerts on weekends throughout the summer. The stadium lease is for 5 years but it could end sooner. We believe this will be a major driver of economic activity, the hiring of hundreds of people and provide a use for the land before the housing is built. Our responsibility at the city is to listen and learn from the local community, enforce noise by-laws, work with the promoter on a traffic management plan, and make sure the local community is heard and respected.

Lastly, I had the opportunity to visit an integral Duke Heights business, Shendy’s Swim School, located at 2 Champagne Drive. I always like to visit local businesses and learn how the city can help.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me and my team via phone at 416-392-1371 or by email at councillor_pasternak@toronto.ca.
Sincerely,
James Pasternak
