Dear Neighbours,
I hope everyone is doing well. I would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving and a Chag Sukkot Sameach (Happy Sukkot) to those celebrating in mid-October. Here are a few updates that I wish to share.
It was exciting to join Premier Doug Ford, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho, Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, Mayor Olivia Chow, Rogers President and CEO Tony Staffieri, Northcrest Developments CEO Derek Goring, and Live Nation Canada President, Music Erik Hoffman at YZD (formerly the Downsview Airport Lands) to announce the launch of the temporary, privately funded Rogers Stadium. This is a new seasonal venue with a capacity of 50,000 coming to York Centre in 2025. We anticipate that it will be dismantled after around 5 years, and the land will then begin to be repurposed as market and affordable housing and commercial properties. In the meantime, this stadium will act as a significant investment for the City of Toronto and we look forward to hosting plenty of high-profile events and entertainers in the near future.
I was also proud to join Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, MPP Tom Rakocevic, Councillor Anthony Perruzza, Duke Heights BIA Chair Dr. Lew Pliamm and Special Advisor Joe Pantalone in unveiling a new 10-year Historic Duke Heights BIA Plaque. I encourage you to stop by the Reformed Hungarian Church at 1130 Finch Avenue West to check it out and learn more about the history of our great community.
Lastly, Toronto Transit Commission recently completed upgrades to existing bus stop infrastructure and installed new stop pole markers at stop 8257 by 1750 Steeles Avenue West and stop 1065 by Flint/Super Test Road. There are around 11 additional TTC infrastructure upgrade projects that are still ongoing in York Centre, but they are expected to be completed soon. We are pleased to see continued improvements to our public transportation network.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me and my team via phone at 416-392-1371 or by email at councillor_pasternak@toronto.ca.
Sincerely,
James Pasternak
